Dear Jay:
I was hoping you can ask your readers this question. "Do women also walk around naked in the locker room at the gym?" I just don't get it. I go to the gym, head to the locker room to change, and there is always at least one naked guy who thinks he is in his home bathroom.
I understand if you are changing, but this goes way beyond. These guys are talking on the cell phones, or blow drying their hair, or having a conversation with some other guy, or shaving, all while buck naked.
No, I am not homo-phobic, but what would be so wrong with these guys wrapping a towel around themselves. I don't need to see there private parts!
I have always wondered if the same goes on in the women's locker room.

The answer to the question is partly yes. I belong to a gym and there are woman that do walk around but mostly with underwear on and no bra on top. I don't see anything wrong with men or women walking around the locker rooms nude. To each his own I say.
When I was a 19-20 I was a member of the local YMCA, I was able to use the "Women's" locker room. Boy was that an experience. I was in Cross Country and Track in High School and we often showered as a team in the locker room after an early morning practice... but the girls showering were more like family than some random lady. I walked in to go and do my workout in the pool and there were NUMEROUS ELDERLY WOMEN walking around naked. WIERD!!!! I couldn't believe my eyes. I was soooooo grossed out and unsure of what to do. I proceeded to the farthest locker away from the ladies and went into the toilet stall to change. It was wierd.
The answer to your question is: it all depends. I have noticed in passing that the women that are more exposed and comfortable in the buff (at the gym)--tend to be in better shape. They are not completely naked...but they don't wrap themselves in 3 towels and try to get dressed underneath these wrappings, which I find totally absurd and it demonstrates a lack of self-acceptance to some degree or perhaps a woman that is very stifled and uptight. I don't believe one should parade around a locker room completely naked as though they are in their own home.
Do it in your own bathroom. I just get dressed after a workout and aside from being in my underwear and socks; that's about as far as I'm going to go! If I smell bad I'll shower at home later. Forget about walking around naked in the gym locker room! If you see someone naked then try to keep your eyes above chest level so there isn't a problem. Some sights can scar a person for life!
I grew up in Europe and later lived there for half of my adult life and have noticed the prudish attitude that Americans have for the human body. In Europe nobody cares, be it on a beach in Spain, a communal sauna or someone lying naked in the park in Munich trying to get a tan during their lunch hour. Stop gawking and get over it.
If you don't want to see - don't look! It's a locker room, for heaven's sake, the whole idea is that it is there for people to change clothes and to clean up after exercising. Have you considered therapy? I can only imagine that you have some pretty screwed up ideas about your own body that you are projecting on others.
